Global Education Outcomes
Global education is an educational approach that aims to prepare students to live and work in a globally interconnected and culturally diverse world. These formative experiences transform lives and ready employees for the 21st Century workforce, both of which benefit by the following perspectives and skills shaped by global education:
- Interconnectedness: Exploring how people, cultures, economies, and environments around the world are interlinked.
- Intercultural Communication: Nurturing respect and sensitivity in order to navigate differences in verbal and nonvebal communication styles while developing clear understanding.
- Cultural Awareness: Understanding and respecting cultural diversity while learning about different traditions, beliefs, and practices.
- Human Rights and Equity: Fostering awareness of social and economic inequalities, promoting fairness and social justice, and addressing global challenges such as climate change and resource management.
- Global Competence: Developing skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, empathy, collaboration, and adaptability in international or multicultural contexts.
- Peace and Conflict Resolution: Teaching strategies for managing and resolving conflicts in ways that promote understanding and peace. Programs in global education often incorporate international and regional partnerships, global-themed curricula, study abroad opportunities, virtual exchange programs, and service-learning projects that address global challenges. The ultimate goal is to cultivate globally aware individuals who contribute positively to their local and global communities.
