Admissions Assessments

Taking courses aligned with your academic skill level is important to your success in college. The Assessment Center will help you and your academic advisor choose the courses that are just right for you, making the most productive use of your time, money, and abilities.

Accuplacer

Incoming apprenticeship students will need to take the Accuplacer. Subjects covered include reading, English and math. This test is not timed. For more information about Accuplacer and a study app, go to: https://accuplacer.collegeboard.org/students.

There is no fee to take the Accuplacer if you are enrolling in classes at Nicolet College.

Tailwind Mathematics, English, and Foreign Language Tests

This test is for students enrolling at Nicolet College only.

Students entering Nicolet's University Transfer Liberal Arts Program must take the Tailwind Mathematics and English placement tests. The Tailwind Foreign Language test is optional. Areas covered in the Tailwind Mathematics placement test are Math Fundamentals, Advanced Algebra, and Trigonometry. The test takes approximately 90 minutes. Topics covered on the Tailwind English test are Reading Comprehension, and Writing Mechanics. The English test also takes approximately 90 minutes. There is no fee to take the Tailwind tests.

Tests for Adult Basic Education (TABE)

This test assesses the skills of incoming students who are enrolling in occupational programs with additional academic support in introductory courses, such as Early Childhood Education. Subjects covered include math, reading and English. There is no charge for the TABE test.

Students may be exempted from admissions assessments if they have taken an ACT test within the last five years and submit the results along with their admissions application. Students who have completed post-secondary credits at another college or university may also be exempted from admissions assessments after a transcript review. Students will need to submit official post-secondary transcripts to Nicolet College Admissions.

Accommodations for Students with Disabilities: Accommodations on Accuplacer or any other assessment are available for any students with a need documented through Disability Support Services. Students who have been diagnosed with a disability, or who feel they may have a disability, are encouraged to meet with the Disability Support Services staff prior to assessment. An appointment with Disability Support Services can be made by calling 715-365-4448.
