Past Exhibits

Julie Reneé Benda is an interdisciplinary artist with a practice in print, illustration, sculpture, and public art. Inspired by a vocabulary of the landscape, she uses narrative and audience participation to highlight the shifting boundaries of land, water, people, and plants. In her exhibition, “Family, Genus, Species,” she will ask, “Who will rule the Nicolet Forest in the next 100 years?” With the help of gallery attendees, Brenda will determine which will survive and which may become obsolete.

This specially curated exhibit features artists who were born and raised in the Northwoods, left the area, and have returned. It’s a celebration of the creative talent called home by the beauty and inspiration they find living in this region. The exhibition will include a variety of mediums and approaches highlighting the interesting array of artists who choose to live in the Northwoods. 

Nicolet College joins ArtStart, the Rhinelander District Library, and the University of Wisconsin Continuing Studies Division to host The School of the Arts; three days of art classes ranging from printmaking to poetry led by artists from across the region. All classes are held 9 am - noon at UWSP-Treehaven. Open to artists of all levels.

The Northern National Art Competition is a juried art exhibition co-sponsored by the Nicolet Art Gallery and The Northern Arts Council. Each year, hundreds of artists nationwide submit work to be considered for inclusion. The competition strives to showcase a cross section of contemporary art in a variety of two-dimensional mediums. The art is always both intellectually stimulating and visually exciting. This year’s judge is Scott Stulen, Director and President of the Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
