Title: Campus Pet Policy
Number: AP 3.09
Adopted: November 2016
Reviewed: June 2020, May 2025
Revised: May 2025
Purpose:
This policy provides for the health and safety of the Nicolet College students, faculty, staff, and visitors; for the protection, efficient use, and enjoyment of the College’s property; and the reasonable management and operations of the College.
This policy improves the quality of campus life inside and outside buildings while minimizing the use of resources on avoidable cleaning and repairs. Beyond the concerns for property maintenance and personal welfare, it is hoped that these regulations will foster an atmosphere where all can enjoy the College’s facilities in a comfortable and relaxed setting.
Policy:
Inside Buildings:
No pets are allowed inside buildings.
NOTE: Service animals or animals providing aid to law enforcement agencies are allowed inside buildings.
Outside of Buildings:
Pets must be leashed and under control at all times; this includes the woods and on the recreational trails. An exception is given to owners who utilize the Field. The Field is not a dog park, and pets do not take priority over campus safety, events, or activities. The College is not responsible for the pet if it is injured. If the owner is asked by an employee to control their animal or put it on a leash, they must comply.
Animal Waste and Damage:
Owners are responsible for immediately removing any feces while on campus property by disposing it in a trash bin or removing it from campus property. If a pet damages College property, it is the owner’s responsibility to pay for the cost of repairs. The College will determine how the damage is repaired.
Waste removal must be thorough enough to generate no additional work for College staff or inconvenience for College community members or visitors. Owners must contact Campus Security (715)-365-4420 to report damages.
Animal Bites:
Animal bites to people or another animal must be immediately reported to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department at (911) or (715)-361-5100 to file a complaint, per Oneida County Ordinance. Additionally, Campus Security (715) 365-4420 will also be contacted to document the incident. Legal or medical costs resulting from the bite will not be the responsibility of the College.
Policy Violations:
Employee: Discipline may take the form of a verbal warning, written warning, suspension without pay, suspension with pay, disciplinary demotion, removing individuals from College owned and/or controlled locations or activities either for a specified period of time or indefinitely, or termination.
Student: Discipline may take the form of a verbal warning, written warning, class suspension, removal from College owned and/or controlled locations either for a specific period of time or indefinitely, or expulsion.
