THE MAN BEHIND THE CREATION OF THE TWINKIE

The Twinkie. The mere mention of this iconic treat had the power to evoke a delightful wave of nostalgia, to transport people back to the innocence of childhood. But few know much about James Alexander Dewar, the man behind the Twinkie, known affectionately as “Mr. Twinkie,” who was my [the instructor’s] grandfather. Pops’ reputation across America was firmly established from the time I could even begin to understand who he was. To the world he was the inventor of the Twinkie, the iconic treat born in the Depression era that
became a household name for nearly a century. But to me, his legacy is far more meaningful. Pops was a source of strength and inspiration. The story of how this all began will take you back to a time long ago, through the present day.
John McConachie, the author, is the grandson of James Alexander Dewar, the creator of the Twinkie. He was an inspiring man who focused his life on his family. “Through my grandfather, I have done the same.” This story is a labor of love.
