There's Lots to Celebrate in February: A Note from Nicolet College President, Kate Ferrel

Happy February, Nicolet College Community –

Beyond the sun shining vividly upon our beautiful Northwoods, we have three excellent reasons to pause, reflect, and celebrate today and throughout the month of February. I invite you to join me in reflecting, celebrating, and learning more about the following:

Lunar New Year

Tuesday, February 1, 2022 marked the beginning of the Lunar New Year, also known as the Chinese New Year. During the Year of the Tiger, I wish you a year of opportunity, success, and good health. Interested in learning more? Here is an interesting overview I enjoyed at the History.com site. Xīnnián kuàilè!

Black History Month

Have you heard of Jessica Watkins? If you haven’t yet, I suspect you soon will. While she’s not the first Black woman to go into space, she is the first Black woman to live in space for an extended period of time on the space station. This WPR story unpacks Jessica’s amazing story and achievements. As a self-proclaimed Rock Nerd, Jessica is most definitely making history. Please join me in recognizing Jessica’s history-making accomplishments.

Career and Technical Education Month

February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) month which makes it an excellent opportunity to remind our community about the lifelong rewards a technical education can offer. Our unique connections to employers allow us to consistently increase the economic vitality of students, families, employers, and communities throughout our region and beyond. Investment in CTE programs work to ensure that all learners, including historically underserved learners, have access to high-quality career and technical education in high-skill, high-wage, and in-demand careers!

My thanks to you for your time. Much sunshine and prosperity to you and yours,

Kate Ferrel
