Journey to The Seventh Continent through the eyes of an artist and educator as we welcome Breanne Kanak—a Wisconsin-based artist, adventurer, and K–12 art teacher in the Northwoods since2016. In November 2024, Breanne embarked on a 10-day Lindblad Expedition through National Geographic, traveling the legendary Drake Passage during Antarctica’s late spring. Before departing, she created a library of K–5 standards-based art lessons, connecting creativity with Antarctica’s landscapes, ecology, and history. On the continent, she observed extraordinary wildlife, interacted with scientists, and produced watercolor artworks inspired by her experiences. In this engaging talk, Breanne shares captivating stories, photos, and videos, offering insight into conservation, mindful eco-tourism, and the joys and challenges of teaching from one of Earth’s most remote places. Artwork from her expedition will be on display throughout the month leading up to the presentation in the Lakeside Center’s first floor.
