Lehmann appointed to state study committee for veterans' benefits

Casey Lehmann, financial aid manager at Nicolet College, has been appointed to serve as a Public Member of the Legislative Council Study Committee on State Veterans' Benefits. 

Chaired by Representative Karen Hurd (R-Withee), the committee will review the benefits state law currently provides to veterans and review statutory definitions or eligibility criteria that define the scope of who is entitled to benefits provided to former members of the military. 

“Supporting veterans in the Northwoods is a cornerstone of my life. I’m excited to serve on the committee and ensure Wisconsin is honoring their service, sacrifice, and resilience,” said Lehmann.  

Lehmann will join two state representatives, two state senators, and five public members from across Wisconsin. As a public member of study committee, Lehmann will provide perspective on the issues and vote on legislative proposals to resolve the issues. The committee will meet during the summer and fall of this year. 

Nominated by Nicolet College to serve on the committee, Lehmann brings a wealth of military, veteran advocacy, and education experience.  

Lehmann’s military experience includes serving in the Wisconsin Army National Guard for six years as a specialist, with a deployment to Iraq in 2003-2004. As a civilian, she also worked for the Wisconsin Army National Guard Family Program, where she supported military families and connected them with resources.  

Lehmann holds a master’s degree in education, with a specialization in student affairs administration from University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. For eight years, she has served as the Veterans Affairs School Certifying Official for Nicolet College, helping student veterans, spouses and dependents navigate Veterans Affairs education benefits.  

Additionally, Lehmann is active in local veteran organizations, including AMVETS Post 724 and the NCO Club of Tomahawk and Rhinelander. She also coordinated a community event at Nicolet College for the Wall That Heals in 2023, which focused on community education and recognition for Vietnam War veterans.
