All Invited to Community Service Fair June 29 at Nicolet College

All members of the public are invited to attend the upcoming Community Service Fair at Nicolet College Thursday, June 29, with the event featuring information and presentations by numerous area non-profit organizations set on building a stronger Northwoods.

“As part of the college’s mission to be in service to the people of northern Wisconsin, a big part of that is creating stronger communities to the greatest extent possible,” said Nicolet College President Kate Ferrel.

“By bringing all of these wonderful organizations together for one event, the public can come in and visit and learn what services might be available to them, to help them in their lives, and also what organization they may want to support through donations or volunteering time.”

The Community Service Fair was originally scheduled for March 31 and was postponed because of a snowstorm.

Presentations June 29 will take place from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the Nicolet College Theatre followed by the Community Service Fair from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. where a variety of community service organizations will have information booths in the Lakeside Commons on campus.

Organizations making presentations starting at 8 a.m. include Habitat for Humanity, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) – Northern Lakes, Rhinelander Area Food Pantry, Rhinelander District Library, Tri-County Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, and Wild Instincts.

The event will run in conjunction with Nicolet’s Campus Connection Day for employees and a brief amount of college business will be conducted at the beginning of the 8 a.m. session.  From 9 a.m. to noon there will also be a blood drive.  Donors may sign up in advance on The Community Blood Center website or at donate.communityblood.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/38044.

Organizations that will have information booths at the Community Service Fair from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Lakeside Commons include ArtStart, Boys & Girls Club of the Northwoods, Children’s Wisconsin, Habitat for Humanity, Headwaters Inc., Lights of the Northwoods, NAMI Northern Lakes, NATH – Frederick Place, Northwoods Community Garden, Northwoods Veterans Homestead, Oneida County Humane Society, Rhinelander Area Food Pantry, Rhinelander District Library, Rhinelander Historical Society, The Community Blood Center, Tri-County Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, United Way, Wild Instincts, WILD (Wise Intentional Leadership Development) Ministries, WXPR, and YMCA of the Northwoods.

During the afternoon, Nicolet employees will continue with their Campus Connection Day activities by volunteering their services both on-campus and out in the community at various non-profit organizations.

Community organizations employees will volunteer at include ArtStart, Boys & Girls Club of the Northwoods, Habitat for Humanity, Oneida County Humane Society, Rhinelander Area Food Pantry, Rhinelander District Library, Tri-County Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, and Wild Instincts.

 On-campus activities will include maintenance projects with Facilities, working the Nicolet College Foundation phone bank, making crafts with Health Occupations to donate to long-term care facilities and shelters, and gardening and creative projects for the Northwoods Community Garden.
