Auditions March 13, 14 for Nicolet Players’ Arsenic and Old Lace

March 3, 2017

Lonely old gentlemen, beware!

Sisters Abby and Martha Brewster are back to their old tricks and will bring their diabolical ways to the Nicolet College Theatre when the Nicolet Players present Arsenic and Old Lace this May.

Arsenic and Old LaceThe community theatre troupe will hold auditions March 13 and 14 for the roles of Abby and Martha and about a dozen other characters for this play regarded as one of the finest American comedies of the 20th Century.

Auditions each night will start at 7 p.m. in the Nicolet College Theatre.

“The play has such great characters and the storyline has so many witty and funny twists and turns that I just had to bring this one to the stage,” said Nicolet College Theatre Director Jim Nuttall.

While the two sisters are known far and wide for their kind and charitable acts, they suddenly take a turn to the dark side and start luring in lonely old men only to poison them with arsenic-laced elderberry wine.

When their nephew Mortimer comes to visit, he discovers that murder is the family’s M.O and drives himself crazy trying to cover up the nefarious crimes and keep everyone from serving the rest of their lives in prison.

There are 14 roles for both men and women ranging in age from about 20 on up through their 60s.

As always, everyone is welcome to audition. Those interested do not need any acting experience and they do not need to be Nicolet students. No preparation is required, but actors are typically better prepared if they have read the script beforehand, Nuttall added. Scripts are available for a three-day checkout from the Richard J. Brown Library, located in the Lakeside Center on the Nicolet Campus.

Cast members will rehearse most weeknights mid-March through early May. Public performances are scheduled for May 5 to 7 and May 11 to 14.
