The scenic lakes, rivers and forests of the Upper Midwest will be the classroom for dozens of Nicolet College Outdoor Adventure Series classes April through September.

The series, in its 20th year, features adventures geared to a wide range of interests, ages, and physical abilities.

“Since day one that has been the hallmark of the Outdoor Adventure Series and what has helped make it so popular,” said Jodi Fox Engleman, Community Education specialist at Nicolet College. “Over the years thousands of people have learned new skills and explored news places through the series. This year we’ll continue that tradition.”

New this year will be a four-day bicycle and sea kayak adventure on and around Lake Superior’s Grand Island, a weekend treasure hunt for agates and other geologic wonders also along Lake Superior, and point-to-point standup paddle boarding adventures down the Wisconsin River and another across one the largest lakes in the Boulder Junction area.

Other classes include numerous canoe and kayak offerings for first-timers on up through those with intermediate and advanced skills. Destinations include the headwaters of the Wisconsin River, the Turtle Flambeau and Willow flowages, and the Lake Superior sea caves.

Hiking and natural history excursions will have participants experiencing the North Country Trail in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, learning about wildflower ecology just south of Rhinelander, and exploring the many dynamic aspects of a bog in Vilas County.

Other themed activities include nine sessions of Paddleboard Yoga, Date Night via Kayak or other Paddlecraft, Sunset Paddle, and Birding for Spring Songbirds.
