Substance Abuse Counselor Education diploma new this fall
July 22, 2015
With demand for substance abuse counselors expected to grow by more than 30 percent nationally in the next decade, Nicolet College is offering a new technical diploma this fall to help meet local need.
“This is a great opportunity for anyone already working as a counselor to add a credential to their skill set or for anyone looking to start a career as a substance abuse counselor,” said Nicolet Dean of Health Occupations Lenore Blemke.
Much of the increased demand for professional substance abuse counselors is being driven by the Affordable Care Act, which requires all residents have health insurance and mandates treatment for substance abuse issues, Blemke added.
Professionals working in the field evaluate and treat people for substance abuse, work with families, and educate community members about substance abuse issues.
Nicolet is offering the 28-credit credential in partnership with Northcentral Technical College in Wausau.
Those who complete the Substance Abuse Counselor Education technical diploma can then apply those credits towards Northcentral’s Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse associate degree.
