Registration open for career-track classes at Nicolet

Nov. 16, 2016

Thinking of attending college but didn’t quite take the leap last fall?

You’re in luck.

Spring Semester is just around the corner and Nicolet College is now accepting applications for that term which begins Jan. 20.

Nicolet Students“It really doesn’t matter when you start college,” said Nicolet College Dean of Students Kate Ferrel. “The most important thing is that you start. The skills and training Nicolet provides are the ticket to great careers and financial security.”

Nicolet currently offers more than 60 college credentials that range from short-term certificates to two-year associate degrees that can be applied to a bachelor’s degree.

“Think of it as an academic pathway where one credential serves as a building block to the next,” Ferrel explained. “What we see quite often is for a student to earn an entry-level credential, find a job in their field of study, and then continue taking classes to earn an even higher credential. This way they’re gaining valuable real-world experience and more advanced training. It’s the perfect combination that leads to success.”

She added that Nicolet is also placing greater emphasis on awarding credits for prior learning to students who start at Nicolet with significant work experience in their field of study.

“It essentially allows some students to test out of entry-level classes and earn college credits for what they’ve learned on the job,” she said. “This saves students both time and money.”

Nicolet also offers numerous flexible online and hybrid classes to help students juggle family, work, and college. “This flexibility has really opened the door to college for many, many students,” she said. “There are still tests and deadlines, but students decide when they do the coursework.”

Nicolet classes will also be held in Minocqua, Eagle River and Tomahawk.

Nicolet also has career coaches and academic advisors on hand to help students determine what career and college credential is right for them, whether they are eligible for credit for prior learning, and to assist with admissions and financial aid.
