Join the fun at Sing-A-Long Sound of Music June 17
June 3, 2015
Become part of the Von Trapp family for an evening when the Sing-A-Long-A Sound of Music comes to the Nicolet College Theatre at 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 17.
The family-friendly event will feature a screening of the classic Julie Andrews musical in full-screen Technicolor, complete with lyrical subtitles so the whole audience can sing along.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the film’s release, which put songs such as My Favorite Things, Do-Re-Mi, and Edelweiss in the popular music lexicon.
“The Sing-A-Long version of the Sound of Music started in New York in 2000 and has since gone on to become something of a global phenomena,” said Nicolet College Theatre Director Jim Nuttall. “There’s been more than 10,000 performances in 11 different countries. The show has sold out the Hollywood Bowl many times and is an annual hit in Chicago, San Francisco, and Seattle, along with other major cities.”
The draw: audience participation.
“During the movie you can join in as much or as little as you want,” Nuttall added. “That’s what makes it so much fun. The whole audience can really become the star of the show.”
To add to the festivities, those attending are encouraged to dress up in a style fitting of any character, prop, or element in the movie.
“I’ve even heard of people dressing up as goats and even a brown paper package tied up with string,” he said. “It’s just a wholesome and really fun experience.”
The evening will include prizes for the best costumes, other contests, and fun gift bags for all who attend.
Tickets are $8 and can be purchased online at nicoletlive.com or by calling (715) 365-4646.
