Stay engaged with Learning in Retirement classes

Aug. 24, 2015

Nicolet College’s Learning in Retirement (LIR) program will feature 40 different offerings this fall where active retirees can explore new ideas, meet new people, and stay engaged in their communities.

“The subjects covered are as diverse as the backgrounds of the people who are members of the LIR,” said Nicolet College Executive Director Sandy Kinney.       Some classes meet only once for a couple of hours while others meet once a week over the course of two months.

“There’s a great deal of flexibility,” Kinney added. “People are welcome to take as many or as few offerings as they wish. Every class offers the opportunity to learn more about an interest, meet new people, and stay active.”

Fall session LIR activities will take place across the Northwoods September through December and include a number of tours, educational and cultural experiences, travelogues, and social activities.

Some of the class topics include the ever-popular Ced’s Nature Series, Wild Edibles, Biology and Human Behavior, Supper Club Stories, Exploring the Game of Bridge, Film Appreciation, and Wisdom from Other World Religions, along with many others.

Tours will include visits to the Harley-Davidson plant, the Northwoods Petroleum Museum, the Hometown Trolley factory, and the Case and Printpack manufacturing plants.

Easy-paced outdoor activities will include a bike ride on the Hiawatha Trail and the Forestry Hike at Treehaven.

Annual membership is $40 and open to anyone who is retired or semi-retired. There are no tests or grades in any class.

Classes begin Sept. 14 with the Fall Kick-Off Dinner on Sept. 10.
