Health care career information sessions June 23 in Tomahawk, June 25 in Minocqua

There’s strong demand for skilled health care workers throughout the Northwoods and anyone interested in a career in the field is invited to attend an upcoming Nicolet College information session
In Tomahawk, sessions will be held Tuesday, June 23, at 1:30 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m. at the Tomahawk Community Bank.
In Minocqua, sessions will be held Thursday, June 25, at 1:30 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m. at Nicolet College’s Lakeland Center.
“Across the board we’re seeing ample job opportunities in health care for those individuals with the right skills,” said Nicolet Health Occupations Dean Lenore Blemke. “And we expect this demand to remain strong into the foreseeable future as professionals retire from the field and the need for health care grows as the population ages.”
Each session will include an overview of the nine different credentials Nicolet offers in the health occupations along with detailed information if anyone has a specific area of interest, she said.
Programs include Dental Assistant, Dental Hygiene, Medical Assistant, Nursing, Nursing Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy, and Radiography. This fall Nicolet will launch the new Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse technical diploma for individuals seeking to work professionally with those with addiction issues.
The college has structured the programs so in many instances students can earn a college credential in a couple of months to a year or less.
“This gives students the option of either entering the workforce with the skills they need and an industry-recognized credential, or to apply their certificate or diploma towards a more advanced credential, such as a two-year associate degree,” Blemke explained.
Nicolet also has numerous credit transfer agreements with four-year campuses that create a smooth pathway for students to go on and earn a bachelor’s degree, she noted.
