Next-generation technology to expand class offerings in Minocqua, Tomahawk
June 26, 2015
Nicolet College classes will be closer to home this fall for people in the Minocqua and Tomahawk areas thanks to new, state-of-the-art TelePresence equipment Nicolet College installed at each location.
“This new technology makes college much more accessible to individuals living in the western and southern portions of the Nicolet district,” said Dean of Business and Instructional Effectiveness Chuck Komp. “Distance to class can be a major barrier for students and now it will be much more convenient for people in these areas to get a college education.”
Nicolet will offer 38 different classes at its Lakeland Center in Minocqua this fall. Fourteen of the classes will be delivered over the TelePresence system and include classes in Business, Information Technology, Liberal Arts, as well as general education classes that are required for most college credentials. Nicolet’s Lakeland Center is located just east of Lakeland Union High School.
In Tomahawk, Nicolet will offer 11 classes over the TelePresence system in Business and Information Technology, along with general education classes. Classes will be held at the Nicolet Outreach Center located at 119 West Wisconsin Avenue.
A third TelePresence classroom is located on the Nicolet Campus just south of Rhinelander.
The next-generation system is one of only a handful at colleges in Wisconsin.
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration has funded 77% of this project equaling $743,870. This is an equal opportunity program. Assistive technologies are available upon request and include Voice/TTY 711 or 800-947-6644.
