Nicolet College to significantly expand class offerings in Eagle River, Tomahawk, Minocqua
Aug. 5, 2015
More Nicolet College classes will be much closer to home for residents in Eagle River, Tomahawk, and Minocqua this fall thanks to new, next-generation conferencing technology in each community.
“The experience is amazing,” Chuck Komp, Dean of Business and Instructional Effectiveness, said of the technology known as TelePresence. “You feel like you are sitting in the same room with people who are actually many miles away. This will definitely cut down on travel time for many students and make it much more convenient for them to earn a college education.”
Each location will offer classes in Business, Information Technology, and University Transfer Liberal Arts over the TelePresence sysem.
In Minocqua, classes will be held at Nicolet’s Lakeland Center just east of Lakeland Union High School and in Tomahawk at the Nicolet Outreach Center at 119 West Wisconsin Avenue.
Nicolet installed TelePresence equipment this summer in Eagle River at the Northland Pines High School.
The college also operates a TelePresence classroom on its main campus just south of Rhinelander.
Credits earned at each location count toward numerous Nicolet credentials, ranging from short-term certificates to two-year associate degrees.
“What we find is that many students use their first credential to get a job in their field of study and also continue taking classes to earn an associate degree,” Komp explained.
For students who have their sights set on a bachelor’s degree, Nicolet has credit transfer agreements that smooth the way to 30 different four-year campuses, including every campus in the University of Wisconsin System.
Fall Semester begins Aug. 24. Classes will be offered days and evenings at each location.
