A half dozen area food pantries recently received donations from the money raised at the Empty Bowls event held earlier this year at Nicolet College.
In all, Empty Bowls raised $2,444 and each organization received $407.
Those accepting checks, along with event organizers, included, front row, left to right, Laura Wind Norton, Nicolet College instructor and event volunteer, Kara Mills, NEWCAP, Inc., Isabelle Wolfer, Community Food Pantry of Eagle River, Ginger Chrobak, Rhinelander Area Food Pantry treasurer; back row, Katy Ralph, Nicolet College Art Gallery Director and Empty Bowls coordinator, Richard Short, Vilas County Food Pantry director, Anita Wolfer Hornbrook, Community Food Pantry of Boulder Junction, Doe Muench, Three Lakes Christian Food Pantry director, and Dick Turner, Three Lakes Christian Food Pantry past director.
The fundraising event at Nicolet consisted of a meal of soup and bread served in hand-made bowls, which those attending got to keep.

Along with Wind-Norton, others from the Nicolet Faculty Association who volunteered included Ethan Blue, Barb Buckel, Joel DeNamur, Paul Ehlers, Jolene Johnson Vanden Elzen, Ocie Kilgus, Kari Krueger, Vicki Mendham, Mark Nebgen, and Mike Umlor.
