This is a continuation of the Teaching Company’s Great Ideas of Philosophy taught by Professor Daniel Robinson, Oxford University, and moderated by Jim Leschke. Participants will watch challenging video lectures by Robinson followed by lively discussions led by Leschke. Participants will receive outlines of each of eight lectures in the series beginning with Plato and ending with Aristotle. Minimum: 8    Maximum: 25

Training a Puppy for Service

Have you ever wondered how dogs are trained to assist people who are blind? AJ and Jo bring their experiences as puppy trainers for Leader Dogs for the Blind. They will tell how they got involved, their training working with the dogs, and how you too can become a trainer. They plan to bring a puppy in training with them.

The Art of Making Bagels

Bagel-making is an art, and a real bagel is hard to find in the northwoods. Learn the technique from a culinary arts specialist— make some bagels, eat a few,and take some home. Civil Liberties and the Bill of Rights

Four sessions of Civil Liberties and the Bill of Rights will be presented on video by Professor John E. Finn, J.D., Ph.D., Professor of Government at Wesleyan University, and an internationally recognized expert on constitutional law and political violence. Each session will have two parts: half-hour lecture on DVD and a half-hour discussion led by a local leader. A break of ten minutes will be followed by a second DVD lecture and discussion. Minimum: 10    Maximum: 100

Jonathan Miller, British author, neurologist and TV personality, delivers these three one-hour DVD essays/interviews. They link development of skeptical thought, philosophy and scientific discovery to the growth of disbelief. The videos were first made available in the U.S. in May 2007 after a three-year run on BBC. Dave Alspaugh and others will attempt to tackle any topic generated. Minimum: 10    Maximum: 100

My Shoreline Reclaimed

Although she has no formal education in native plantings, Lynn Anderson decided to tackle a reclamation project and learn from it. She will teach you how and why to restore your lakeshore to native vegetation; how to apply for cost sharing grant money; and how to rid yourself of burdensome lawncare and help our lakes at the same time.
