Admission Requirements


1) Complete application form. Students must apply directly to Lakeshore Technical College.

2) Submit $30.00 non-refundable application fee. Make check out to Lakeshore Technical College (LTC).

3) Official copy of high school transcript or high school equivalency (HSED).

4) Complete ACCUPLACER entrance exam.

*Any student not meeting the above scores will be required to remediate through basic education and/or prep courses. This will be determined by the program advisor.

Testing for students is available Monday – Friday, 8:00am-1:30pm . There is no cost for this test. If you have more questions, please call 365-4448.

Students admitted into the program will:

  • Pass physical exam with all required blood titers and negative TB skin test or negative chest x-ray.
  • Current CPR (infant, child, adult)

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift 10 pounds for 76-100% of the time and 20 pounds for 31-75% of the time. Standing is required for 76-100% of the time.

What does a pharmacy technician do?

Labeling, and recording of drugs. More specific tasks may include packaging and labeling drugs for prescription dispensing, prepare parenteral admixtures under aspetic and sterile conditions, receive and inventory drug shipments, maintain patient files, and provide office services as needed for the pharmacist.

Do you have what it takes to become a pharmacy technician?

Pharmacy technicians must posses exceptional interpersonal communication skills. Additionally, Pharmacy technicians must apply the knowledge of ethics as well as legal implications of their actions as it relates to themselves, the pharmacist and the pharmacy. Pharmacy technicians must be able to lift 10 pounds 76-100% of the time, and 20 pounds 31-75% of the time. Standing is required for 76-100% of the time. Reaching, grasping, and fine motor skills are required 76-100% of the time.

What is the progam like at Nicolet College?

Nicolet Area Technical College (NATC) offers its Pharmacy Technician program in cooperation with Lakeshore Technical College (LTC). As a student in the pharmacy technician program you will attend live interactive TV classes sent from LTC to Outreach - Lakeland or the Rhinelander campus for the core surgical technologist courses. General education courses may be taken at Nicolet. Students will also have various clinical lab experiences during their coursework.

Nicolet College admits 2 students into the Pharmacy Technician program every fall.

What happens after graduation?

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to work as a pharmacy technician in community pharmacies, nursing home pharmacies, and hospital pharmacies.

Are good jobs available?

Approximately 2670 jobs are expected to exist in the state by the year 2008. An annual median salary of $19,851 was reported by graduates statewide in 2001.
