Need to brush up your academic skills before taking the Accuplacer test?

The Accuplacer test is an achievement test used by Nicolet College to assess academic preparedness. Unfortunately, for many people the word “test” causes instant anxiety. It is important to note that we use this test not to screen people out of the College, but rather to help them choose courses that will help to insure their success here at Nicolet. Academic brush-up is a necessary part of the college experience for many if not most college students, especially for those who have not been in a classroom environment for a long period of time. Recent studies have shown that up to 50% of students starting college require remedial course work in one or more areas. Therefore, do not look upon this brush-up as being negative, or a set-back, but simply a natural step in the educational process. For most educational programs at Nicolet, this brush-up is done while the student is enrolled in program classes, so there is not a wait to start school.

Testing Times

The Accuplacer test is administered Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the Testing Center of the University Transfer Center. No appointments are necessary, however, be sure you have gone through the admissions process prior to taking the Accuplacer. Nicolet's Admissions Office can be reached by calling 715-365-4451, and the Testing Center at 715-365-4448.

Remedial Education

As noted above, the longer it has been since you have been in an academic environment, the better the chances are that you will require some sort of remedial education. This brush-up can be started prior to taking the Accuplacer test, which may greatly increase your chances of earning higher scores on the test.

Remedial opportunities are available to people with Internet access so that they can initiate this process at home. These sites are free of charge and can be a great way to study for Nicolet's Accuplacer test and can help to orientate students to computer adaptive testing.
