Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Art: An Introduction
What is aesthetics? What is art? What is the value of an idea? In this course students will be introduced to the history and evolution of aesthetics. We will discuss the distinction between aesthetics and philosophy of art using Robert Stecker's book, Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Art: an Introduction, second edition, available through the student bookstore. Discussion topics include Aesthetics; What is Art?; Expressiveness in Music and Poetry; Artistic Value.Purchasing the text is recommended but not necessary. During class will learn to identify engine parts as you practice disassembling and reassembling small engines to operating condition.
