Starting the Entrepreneurial Venture

Starting the Entrepreneurial Venture is a brand new training progr am for start-up and early-stage entrepreneurs designed to help turn your business ideas into reality. The eight-week modular progr am covers the essential components of the business planning process and informative and relevant presentations by practicing subject matter experts.

Module 1: Defining a Business Concept and Modeling a Business Feasibility Checklist

In this module, you will identify and find the information you need to define your business concept, which will become the foundation of your business plan. Then you will test the concept's feasibility to determine if the product/service can be sold to an identifiable market at a profit sufficient to support your personal vision and business goals. If the business concept is feasible, it is time to write a business plan.

Module 2: Management and Organization Planning and Product/Service Planning

In this module, you will learn about the key advantages and disadvantages of different legal structures. You will also recognize the importance of building a strong management Team, effectively staffing a business, and creating an organizational structure and culture aligned with your entrepreneurial aspirations. You will then begin defining your product/service in terms of features, benefits, and other key attributes, and identify the intellectual property of your proposed venture and determine the best way to protect it.

Module 3: The Marketing Plan: Industry and Competition and Conducting an Analysis

In this module, you will learn how to create an industry profile, identify and analyze the competition, build a competitive advantage, and position your product/service. You will also learn about the process of researching market characteristics, identifying potential markets, selecting your target market, and developing your customer profile.

Module 4: The Marketing Plan: Creating a Business Image

In this module, you will focus on creating an appropriate business image, determining which market penetration tactics will be the most effective in reaching customers and developing a plan to promote your business. You will also find out what is needed for a successful business website and whether or not your business needs one.

In this module, you will understand the process of determining a relevant price range, evaluating price constraints and sensitivities, selecting a strategy, and setting pricing for your product/service.

Module 6: Financial Planning: Start-Up Costs, Sales, Inventory, and Operating Expenses

Here is your opportunity to better understand financial terminology and concepts used in determining feasibility and developing a profitable business venture. Become acquainted with the benefits of budgeting, the sources of financial information available, and the importance of well-documented assumptions. Here you will have the opportunity to develop a Financial Template and begin entering your start-up costs and sales projections, inventory projections, as well as operating expenses and document the assumptions that support these projections.

Module 7: Financial Planning: Cash Outlays, Sources and Financial Statements

In this module, you will focus on key financial concepts: understanding and projecting accurate financial statements, determining the cash needed to start and operate the business, and evaluating cash sources.

Module 8: Finalizing the Business Plan

At this point you should have all the sections necessary to complete your business plan. In this module, you will find out what is necessary to finalize your business plan by adding such important elements as the cover page, table of contents, writing an executive summary, and developing your appendix. You will then compare your business plan to your personal vision and the model business and begin assessing and planning the next steps to follow after you have completed the business plan.
