Position Summary

This is a limited term two semester 75% appointment. There are no benefits associated with this position. Under the general supervision of the Director of Library Services, this individual is responsible for performing reference and instructional services to both traditional and online/distance learning students, and cataloging. The individual in this position works primarily on the Lakeland Campus in Minocqua. Some evening and 1 day per week at Rhinelander campus work required.

 

Duties/Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Provide library/research instruction to students in coordination with the Head of Access Services.
  • Create learning objects to support the college's information literacy program.
  • Provides reference, research, technical, and circulation assistance to patrons, students, and faculty.
  • Develop instructional materials for information literacy and research instruction in coordination with the Head of Access Services.
  • Promote the use of current research tools to faculty and staff; provide corresponding instruction and assistance to faculty.
  • Work with faculty and instructional staff to help them integrate appropriate research assignments into course offerings.
  • Supervise inventory of the library collection for the Lakeland Campus.
  • Assist in the maintenance of course reserves in both electronic and print formats.
  • Supervise daily operations of the Lakeland Campus library.
  • Promote the library through outreach and other services.
  • Perform original cataloging and guidance to the copy cataloger.
  • Perform any other duties as may be required.


Work Direction Received

Works under the general supervision of the Library Director with work direction from the Head of Access Services.

 

Supervision Exercised

Oversees the Lakeland Campus Library during normal operating hours, 8am - 9pm Monday through Thursday and 8am - 4pm Friday. The part-time schedule will be determined by the position holder, in conjunction with appropriate staff, and be designed to provide adequate and consistent coverage.

 

Decision Making

Decisions are made independently concerning daily activities, assisting patrons with problems, and providing reference services. This position will make primary cataloging decisions for the college.

 

Interaction

There is significant interaction with the general public, staff, students, faculty, and Rhinelander campus librarians.

 

Desirable Knowledge and Ability

Knowledge of modern library practices, general policies, and procedures. Ability to pay attention to detail; to interpret, use, teach, and explain the use of all library/media facilities and other computer-related technology; to supervise the work of others, to communicate orally and in writing, and to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the general public.

 

Training and Experience

A Master of Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution is required, along with a strong public service commitment. Excellent organizational, problem solving and communication skills required. We are looking for a self motivated and forward thinking professional. Must be able to work as a member of a team. Cataloging experience preferred. Eligibility for WTCS Librarian certification.

 

Beginning Date

September 2, 2008 or as soon thereafter as possible.

 

Salary

$31.35/hr, MLIS degree required.
