Native Plants

Nicolet College was 1 of 13 colleges in the nation to be selected for a National Wildlife Federation Fellowship. Dee Mayo's work, Sense of Place; Native Plants of Native People, features native plants on campus that are used in her Ojibwe culture.

 

 

 

A Sense of Place

Matthew QuinlanMatthew Quinlan, a former Nicolet College transfer student, wrote an 80-page booklet,A Sense of Place: Guide to Nicolet College Natural Areas. Matthews book can be purchased at the Nicolet bookstore.

 

 

 


 

Environmental Literacy Survey

Mike Cheslock, a former Nicolet College student, conducted the environmental literacy survey and helped charter the Grass Roots student environmental club.

 

 

 

 

 

Environmentally Friendly Chef

Jacqueline Kinney

Jacqueline Kinney, a culinary arts student at Nicolet, planted a herb garden, composted, recycled, increased vegetarian entrees, and served organic shade grown coffee at the student operated Top of the Hill restaurant.

Billboard Moratorium

Krista KlausBillboard moratorium proposed for local township. Krista Klaus gave a presentation at the township board meeting. The presentation included petitions with over 150 signatures and an ordinance proposed to put a moratorium on any new billboards. This project was a part of an activism exercise in geography class.

Anne Bigari and Michael Kampstra created the Environmental Sustainability website for Nicolet College. Anne is an Administrative Assistant intern for Nicolet College. Michael is a graphic design intern for Nicolet College

 

 

 

 

 

 


Vending Machine Project

Nicolet College Student Jaz NettrourContents of campus vending machines are high in fat, sugar, and sodium. Diets high in these ingredients lead to obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Student Jaz Nettrour recommended to PLT that more nutritious foods be placed in the vending machines.

 

 

 

 

Xeriscaping: Landscaping with Native Plants

Nicole Magnant proposed to PLT a xeriscaping plan for landscaping the Nicolet sign at the entrance to the Rhinelander campus on County Highway G.
