In order to move beyond dead-end jobs, Jason Kirker knew he had to continue his education and earn a degree. After enrolling in the Transfer program, Jason knew he could begin his dream of becoming an environmental educator by earning an Associate of Science degree at Nicolet College. Jason's goals were a perfect fit for the three scholarships he earned through the Foundation; the Legacy Award, the University Transfer Associate Degree Completion Scholarship and the Ced Vig/Institute for Learning in Retirement Scholarship.
Mr. Vig, the Northwoods premier environmentalist and Jason had the opportunity to spend some time together last summer. "Mr. Vig has been my role model for years," Jason said. Scholarships have allowed Jason to focus on his education rather than the cost of tuition. He said, "The awards have given me the strength and encouragement to stay in school. I am so grateful for those who believe that education does change people's lives. Through their generosity I will reach my goals." Jason will graduate in May of 2009 and plans to earn his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Environmental Education at the UW-Stevens Point.
