Run to Remember raises more than $7,000 in honor of Kory Dahlvig
The Nicolet College Foundation’s Run to Remember on Saturday raised more than $7,000 for student scholarships, making the third annual event another highly successful fundraiser.
Along with raising money for scholarships, the run/walk honored Kory Dahlvig, a Nicolet graduate and former Vilas County Sheriff’s deputy who lost his life in the line of duty.
The event drew 122 registered participants.
“It’s really inspiring to see so many people and sponsors come forward to honor Kory and also raise money for a very worthy cause,” said Heather Schallock, executive director of the Nicolet College Foundation.
Top finisher in the 5K race was Doug Ferrell of Rhinelander with a time of 22:05.
Ten-year-old Sophia Bessette of Schofield was the top female finisher with a time of 23:57.
In the 10K race, Dan Bessette of Schofield won the men’s division in time of 40:54 and Roxanne Lutgen of Mercer led the ladies with time of 52:09
Runners and walkers age 6 to 77 participated in the 5K event. Here, Doug Ferrell, left, sets the pace from the start. He went on to take first overall.
Many friends, family members, and event volunteers added to the festive atmosphere.
About two dozen children took part in the Kid’s Race at Run to Remember.
